Effective Approaches to the Dinnertime Dilemma

Don’t let those long work days followed by nights of driving the kids around town for sports or other activities force you to slip into the fast-food lane on the way home.

NOAH has a few tips to help you plan ahead so that your evening dinners are healthy and nutritious, not out of a box or bag.

1 – Weekend meal prep ideas can be jotted down. Think about 5-7 easy meals your family is sure to love. Examples may include Taco’s for Tuesday’s, Fish Friday’s, slow cooker Saturday’s etc.

2 – When it’s time to head to the grocery store, bring a shopping list of staples such as rice, pasta, beans, and potatoes as well as frozen and canned fruits and vegetables with little or no added salt or sugars. If you find great deals on produce, grab your faves and save the canned options for the days when you are running low on fresh veggies and fruits.

3 – Once you get home from the grocery stores, start prepping foods for the week. Start with your proteins such as ground turkey and beef, chicken, stew meat and pork etc. Thinking of your meal prep recipes, slice and marinate your meats and package in labeled zip lock bags and store in the freezer until you are ready to use them.

4 – Slow cooker recipes can be prepared before you head out in the morning and they are ready for all to eat just in time for dinner.

5 – Having stir fry is fast and easy. All you have to do is heat up your wok and drop in your protein followed by your favorite veggies.

Cooking can be super easy if you involve the whole family. Sharing responsibilities is a great way spend time together. If you aren’t getting your little helpers motivated to take part in dinner prep try making it fun.

These tips are sure to work if you pick a quick game of paper, rock, scissors – for things like:
Setting the table.
Pouring drinks.
Stirring the food.
Selecting which fruits to have for dessert.
Setting the table.
Clearing the dishes after dinner.
Putting the leftovers in the fridge.
