In family medicine, I can do so much for so many people. I can guide a woman through her pregnancy, delivery her baby, make rounds on both the new mom and the new baby while in the hospital, then follow the new family in the clinic. I can work with complex medical patients to control diabetes, hypertension, renal disease to name just a few. I can also make an impact on the community through health promotion and screening. I love working with patients of all ages. I have also loved teaching medical students and residents, growing more primary care physicians.
Why do you work at NOAH?
I love working at a community health center! More than 20% of a family physician’s patients have some sort of mental health issue. At NOAH, the patient and I are supported by a behavioral health team – both counselors and psychiatrists. We also have dentistry and nutrition counselors. Working with the underserved has always been my goal and privilege.
What are your passions outside of your profession?
My children, hiking, reading and I’m learning how to watercolor!
If you won the lottery tomorrow, what would you do?
I’d sell everything, hire tutors for my children and travel the world. I’d also endow a residency program or two to alleviate my guilt over leaving practice. I’d continue to volunteer, of course.
